Banjo!

My main interest in banjo playing is the style known as Classic banjo, and you can see and hear my work in that area here.

I teach Irish-style tenor banjo. Great for Scots and Irish traditional music. Here's a piece well known in Irish circles as Mrs Kenny's Barndance, but was actually written by Scotsman, Felix Burns, and known as Woodland Flowers:

I also promote and teach Scottish traditional music on the tenor banjo. See this site for videos, tabs, etc.

I also play clawhammer style - striking down on the strings with the index or middle fingers.
This is regarded as OLD TIME banjo playing.
Some players use a thimble or clawhammer pick on their index finger, as in the following video:

I also teach beginners Bluegrass Banjo. Here is a classic carter Family song called 'Wildwood Flower'

I also play jazz and ragtime styles on the tenor or Plectrum banjo. Here are three exercise from a 1920s book:

Every style of banjo requires a different instrument, so if you are interested in playing the banjo, please get in touch first.
I can ensure you get the correct instrument for the style.
